A slain Boko Haram attack victim, whose photograph went viral on social media, was yesterday identified as a graduating female student of Mass Communication Department, University of Maiduguri (UniMaid).
The Head of Department (HoD), Dr. Nasir Abba-Aji gave the victim’s full name as Nana Fatima Babagana, saying she was a Diploma student and participating in a group course project before she was killed in the Auno attack on Sunday night.
“She was in love with broadcasting. She was always at our Radio House with her colleagues; and whenever I visited, I fondly talked to them, asked them, don’t you have any other place to go,” the HoD recalled.
Dr. Abba-Aji added that due to her strong interest in the media practical activities, he wondered on hearing that the deceased had sought and got admission at the Political Science department for her degree programme.
Speaking, Dr. Sharafa Dauda, who was coordinating Late Fatima’s programme, described her as an understanding person, saying, she was always committed to her academic activities.
Another lecturer, Halima Hassan Ashemi, who played a mentor role to the deceased, said Late Fatima would frequently travel to Kano state, see her family members and return to school.
“I was not happy that Fatima was regular on this road. There was a time I felt that I should talk to Fatima to give me her mother’s number so as to raise an alarm about her frequent Journeys to Kano and back every now and then, “Mrs. Ashemi said.
